Good Afternoon SV Community,

Unfortunately the majority of our Spring Sports came to an end last week with playoff losses for Boys and Girls Lacrosse and for Softball and Baseball. Our track season, however is still in full swing and they will participate in regionals this week.  Please continue to encourage your student athletes to stay focused on their school work and please make sure to be monitoring their grades via the MYmcps parental portal.

NOTES/RECAP FROM LAST WEEK.

Track and Field:

The Track and Field team competed in the Montgomery County Championships this past week at Watkins Mill HS and also in the “B” meet at Einstein HS on Saturday.

A few highlights from The county Championships:

  • Deborah Gnoumou- 3rd place 100 Hurdles
  • Giselle Badoo -6th place 100 Dash
  • Deborah Gnoumou- 2nd place 300 Hurdles- also a PR
  • Vanessa Ventura- 2 personal records in the 1600 and 800 Run
  • Stacy Basemera –PR’d in the Discus
  • Deborah Gnoumou- 5th place- High Jump
  • Jamal Snowden 4th place-Long Jump and 5th place- High Jump (his length of 21-2.5 and ht of 6’0” are both personal records
  • Boys 4x 400 -7th –with season best time 3:33.65
  • Boubacar Barry- PR- in 800- time of 2:09.13- one of the fastest times at SV in 6 years
  • Jeffery Roach and Joe Kamden- PR’d in the 400 Dash
  • Boubacar Barry- PR’d in the 1600

A highlight from Saturday’s B- Meet

  • Chrystiana Soglo- PR in shot put 32’4”- good for 2nd place

In Track and Field Alumni news- Congratulations to SV Alum- Lance Wilson on begin named the 2018 MC Raptors Men’s Track and Field MVP.

 

Boys Lacrosse:

The Varsity Boys Lacrosse season came to end with a tough 21-4 loss to Walkersville in the 1st round of the playoffs. The team showed marked improvement this year and are looking to build for the future.

Girls Lacrosse:

The Varsity Girls Team saw their season come to end this past Wednesday, when they fell to Damascus 14-8. The team played their best game of the year and were down 9-8 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. The girls were excited to finish strong and it is something to build on for next season.

Varsity Softball:

The Team wrapped up their regular season on Monday, defeating Northwood 14-4.

The Varsity Softball team season came to end on Wednesday when they lost their first round playoff game to Middletown HS 14-1. Good luck to all of our Seniors and we are already looking forward to getting started for next season.

The team recognized their five Seniors prior to Monday’s game.

Varsity Baseball:

The team wrapped up their regular season on Monday, defeating Northwood 13-3

The Varsity Baseball team played well in their first round game at Williamsport HS but couldn’t come up with the victory. Falling 12-2.  The team was shorthanded all year, but played well as a team and had a very successful season.

The Team recognized their only Senior prior to Mondays game.

SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE MONTH- APRIL

Congratulations to Alexis Roberson and Joshua Ronchi for being chosen as the April Scholar Athletes of the Month.

Alexis Roberson– Varsity Softball

 

Alexis Roberson she has worked extremely hard on and off the field to pursue her college softball dream. She has amazing grades and because of her dedication she will be attending Delaware university next year.

Joshua Ronchi- JV Baseball

 

Josh is an excellent teammate and leader on the Jv baseball team and was named as a captain. His teammates look up to him not only on the field but off of the field. He carries a 3.71 gpa and truly exemplifies a student athlete.

Congratulations to both of you for setting the example as Screaming Eagle Scholar Athletes

FALL SPORTS INTEREST MEETINGS

There will be an interest meeting for anyone interested in Pom’s or Cheer for the Fall 2018 School year on Thursday, May 24th at 6 pm in the Cafeteria
