Good morning SVHS Community and Happy New Year.


The Athletic Department hopes that everyone had a safe and joyous holiday break.  We are excited to be back and looking forward to our athletic teams getting back into action this evening. We have a busy January and February with lots of events to showcase our awesome student athletes. We hope that you can join us and help support and cheer them on.

A few important notes and upcoming important dates:



The 2nd quarter marking  period is more than halfway completed and the student athletes are working hard to maintain their eligibility for the winter, as well as the Spring. Please note that 2nd quarter grades will determine eligibility for Spring sports, which begin February 29th, more on that below.  The Marking Period ends on January 24th, please make sure you checking on your students grades via the mymcps parental portal. https://portal.mcpsmd.org/public/

Friday, January 3rd:

JV/V Boys Basketball travels to Watkins Mill- 530/715

JV/V Girls Basketball hosts Watkins Mill 530/715- Doors open at 5 pm

Wrestling- at Rockville Duals- Rockville HS 430 pm

Saturday, January 4th:

Wrestling- Rockville Duals- Rockville HS 9 am

Swim and Dive vs Paint Branch at Gaithersburg Aquatic Center 12 pm

Monday, January 6th:

Bocce at Damascus 5:30 pm

Tuesday, January 7th:

JV/V Girls Basketball at Magruder 530/715

JV/V Boys Basketball vs Magruder 530/715- Doors open at 5 pm

Wednesday, January 8th:

Indoor Track –MCPS- Meet #3 at PG Sportsplex- 2:30 pm

Saturday, January 11th:

Poms – at Northwest Jaguar Invitational 10 AM




At Seneca Valley we want to make sure that all of our events are an enjoyable experience for all in attendance. With that said, we are asking for our parent/guardians, family members, students and fans, adhere to the following criteria:


  • Please remember to not disrupt the event in any manner. Fans are there to cheer, encourage and support all student athletes in attendance. They are also there to support the coaches and officials.
    • Seneca Valley has a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate fan behavior and if at any time, the focus is taken away from the action on the court, both verbal and non-verbal inappropriate actions in the stands, we will have the spectator(s) removed from the event.


  • Please make sure to use the trash cans that are made available and not leave any trash in the gymnasium area


  • At no time do we allow parents in the back area by the locker rooms or athletic offices. Fans will need to stay in the gym or the lobby area at all times.


  • Large Backpacks and Bags will not be permitted inside of the gym.


  • No outside athletic equipment, balls, etc. will be permitted in the gym. This includes basketballs, footballs.


  • There is no Re-Entry to SVHS Athletic Events. If a fan leaves the building, they will be asked to purchase another ticket.


  • We do not permit fans to walk in front of the team bencher or the scorer’s table at any time during the game.


  • No personal music devices are permitted, unless accompanied by headphones
    • Any music played outside of what is being played on the gymnasium sound system is not permitted at any time.


  • Seneca Valley High School adheres to the MCPS polices regarding Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco products prohibited on school grounds.
    • If someone is deemed under the influence of alcohol or drugs on their persons, they will be denied access to the event.




Our awesome booster club is once again looking for assistance with running our concession stand for winter basketball games. If you are able to work please use the link below and sign up. Please note that funds raised goes to all Seneca Valley clubs and athletic teams.

Though we are several weeks away for many of our Winter Sports Senior Nights- please note below when they will take place

Swim and Dive- Saturday, January 25th– vs QO and Gaithersburg- 9:15 am- Germantown Swim Center

Wrestling and Indoor Track- Tuesday, February 4th vs Wheaton 6:15 pm

Boys and Girls Basketball and Winter Cheer- vs BCC VG- 530/ VB 715- Seniors will be recognized in between the games.




Seneca Valley Athletics along with our SVHS Captains Council continues to create opportunities to increase school spirit and get fans in attendance at our athletic events. Please note the following events that are dedicated spirit events and what we are doing to help promote the event.

Girls Basketball- Friday, January 10th vs Damascus- JV 530/ V 715- SVHS students with a valid student id will get into the event free.

This is thanks to our awesome Booster club who will cover the cost.

Swim and Dive- Saturday, January 25th vs QO and Gaithersburg- Germantown Swim Center 9:15 AM. Our Cheer teams and our other winter sports teams will be in attendance

Boys Basketball- Friday, January 31st vs Damascus- JV 530/V 715- SVHS students with a valid student id will get into the event free.

Poms- Saturday February 1st– MCPS Pom Championships- Blair HS 10:30 AM- Our booster club will provide tickets to the first 50

SVHS Students who turn in a permission slip and the SVHS athletic department will provide a free bus.




The online registration window for Spring Sports opens on January 31st.  Please note that all student athletes interested in participating in Spring Sports must register online via the mymcps parental portal. The deadline for registering to be cleared for a February 29th Tryout is Wednesday, February 26th.

For those who will be in need of assistance with the registration process, the SVHS athletic department will be available on Monday, February 24th and Tuesday, February 25th from 3 pm until 8 pm to assist in person with anyone who needs it. Chromebooks will be provided.

Please note that student athletes must be eligible based on 2nd quarter grades and must have a valid and up to date physical from a doctor.
